TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com — Upon reaching its 25th anniversary, Pondok Pesantren Daarul Qowaanin, situated in Kampung Cisangkir, Kotabaru Village, Cibeureum District, Tasikmalaya City, reaffirms its dedication to nurturing a generation distinguished by both knowledge and righteous deeds.
Amid what is perceived as increasingly intricate moral challenges, the pesantren opts to retain the traditional salaf teaching method, augmenting it with scholarly works penned personally by its leader.
The head of Pondok Pesantren Daarul Qowaanin, KH Asep Zainy Arief, stated that the institution’s core vision from its inception through its quarter‑century milestone remains constant: to produce a generation that balances religious knowledge with its practical application in daily life.

“Our vision is to nurture a generation marked by excellence in both knowledge and righteous actions. This remains our guiding principle,” he told Radar on Saturday (18/7/2026).
He explained that the educational approach at Daarul Qowaanin continues to employ the traditional salaf methodology passed down by earlier scholars.
Nevertheless, for certain texts studied, the exegesis (syarah) is based on the leader’s own writings, ensuring the material is thoroughly mastered and more accessible for the students.
“When we employ our own writings, we naturally have a deeper grasp of their substance. It’s impossible to help others understand a lesson if we ourselves are not fully comprehension of it,” he remarked.
KH Asep stated that, up to the present, he has compiled four commentaries (kitab syarah) which serve as core teaching materials at the pesantren.
Specifically, these are Shawn al‑Haji, a commentary on al‑Muqaddimah al‑Ajurrūmiyyah (Nahwu); Tasyrīf al‑Mazīy, a commentary on at‑Tashrīf al‑‘Izziy (Sharaf); Kifāyah al‑Mustabin, a commentary on Nazham Ar‑Risālah ad‑Dahlaniyyah (Bayan); and Inkisyāt azh‑Zhulam, a commentary on As‑Sulām al‑Munawraq (Manthiq).
He added that enrollment at Daarul Qowaanin is not limited by age; while most students are adults, the pesantren also welcomes children from primary school level through various other educational stages.

On the other hand, KH Asep considers the principal challenge confronting Islamic education today to be the deteriorating ethics among the younger generation.
This circumstance justifies the pesantren’s responsibility to cultivate community leaders equipped with both robust knowledge and strong moral character.
“Assessing the current situation, morality is indeed alarming. Therefore, the upcoming generation must be more grounded than the present one, in terms of both knowledge and deeds,” he asserted.
