Studio MAPPA is not new to the shojo market. They produced the 2018 TV anime of Banana Fish. Even though it’s frequently labeled a crime‑action series, Banana Fish originally appeared in the shojo magazine Bessatsu Shojo Comic. In 2025, MAPPA animated a fresh film adaptation of The Rose of Versailles, directed by Ai Yoshimura. The movie premiered in Japanese theaters in January 2025 and later became available on Netflix.
Originally launched in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine in April 2023, Fall in Love, You False Angels (Koi Seyo Mayakashi Tenshi-domo) has quickly become one of the publisher’s most popular recent shojo titles. In 2025, it secured the 49th Kodansha Manga Award in the shojo category. Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English, describing the first volume as follows:
All sugar, no spice, and everything nice…that’s the impression the beautiful first‑year high schooler and class president Otogi gives to those around her. One look from the school’s “heartthrob angel” is enough to sweep countless admirers off their feet. But the real Otogi Katsura is no angel: She’s calculating, ruthless, and sharp‑tongued. When Otogi slips up and reveals her inner baddie in front of the class’s other paragon, Toki, he counters by unveiling an unexpected side of his own and calling her his “partner in crime.” With cupid’s arrow at her back, can the “heartthrob angel” keep up her perfect act and regain the upper hand, or will she be the one swept off her feet by a fellow false angel?!
