Thecuy.com – The head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sudaryono said that the poisoning of hundreds of students after they ate the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) in Bogor and Cirebon, West Java, is suspected to be caused by the kitchen buying pre‑made food ingredients. According to him, this situation makes it hard to monitor the quality of the ingredients.

Sudaryono indicated that the Cirebon case may involve the purchase of already cooked and peeled quail eggs. He explained that his team cannot confirm when the eggs were boiled, peeled, stored, or who performed those steps.

“The suspicion in Cirebon and Bogor is that the kitchen bought finished food items, not raw ingredients. In Cirebon, they bought quail eggs that were already cooked and peeled. We cannot monitor when they were boiled, when they were peeled, where they were stored, who peeled them, whether their hands were clean or not, whether they used PPE, and so on, we cannot confirm,” said Sudaryono at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Jakarta, Wednesday (28/10/2026).

He also mentioned a similar suspicion regarding the Bogor case. According to him, the kitchen is believed to have bought ready‑made satay peanut sauce, making it impossible to verify the cooking process and its hygiene.

“And it is repeated that the Bogor case likely occurred because he bought the satay peanut sauce as a finished product. We cannot confirm when the sauce was ground, by whom, where, whether it was clean or not,” he added.

Sudaryono said BGN has dispatched a team to conduct an investigation. He stressed that his agency will not tolerate anything that endangers lives and health.

“Now, we are examining this. As Head of BGN, once again, matters concerning someone’s life and health are no joking matter,” he said.

The former Deputy Minister of Agriculture also affirmed that he will take firm action if intentional wrongdoing is found in the MBG poisoning case. He stated that a kitchen could be permanently closed if it is proven to be dangerous due to deliberate negligence.

“I don’t care who owns the kitchen, as long as it is hazardous and that is due to deliberate negligence, I must, it is my legal duty, to permanently close it. So, I am sending an investigation team now, including checking if the CCTV is recording, and so on,” he said.

Sudaryono added that if negligence is found in the SPPG, the responsible parties could be removed from their positions. He mentioned that the kitchen manager would be dismissed, while the nutrition expert and finance expert would be fired.

“So, I will dismiss the kitchen manager, then fire the nutrition and finance experts. That is clear, the first step. Then I will suspend the kitchen, we will check, we will investigate whether there is intentional negligence, buying ready‑made food ingredients is intentional negligence,” he explained.

He emphasized that MBG should be nutritious and healthy food, not cause illness to those who consume it.

“MBG is called a free nutritious meal, nutritious. So it is healthy, it does not make people sick,” he said.
