Kampung Media, Bandung – The Bandung City Government is now carrying out an in‑depth investigation into an alleged food poisoning case reported by several customers at 88 Seoul restaurant. Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, said that inspections have been conducted by the Health Department (Dinkes) together with the Food and Agricultural Resilience Department (DKPP) of Bandung City.

The inspection covers a range of hygiene and sanitation aspects of the restaurant. Farhan said, “We are carrying out various checks, including storage areas, the distance between storage of wet food, dry food, clean utensils, dirty utensils, chemical cleaning agents, up to dirty materials.”

From the inspection, several issues requiring correction by the restaurant were identified. Among them are kitchen workflow, the dining utensil washing area, and the storage of frozen and chilled food. Farhan added that the frozen food storage area does not yet have a clear first‑in‑first‑out (FIFO) system. Additionally, the cold food storage area also needs to be equipped with a temperature measuring device.

Bandung City Government also found that used oil storage was not yet in a closed condition and chemical storage needs to be equipped with a closed container. Regarding food handling, several food handlers also did not wear masks, which is one of the risk factors in this inspection.

Farhan emphasized that a number of these findings are currently being corrected by the restaurant. “To be sure, we will ensure that 88 Seoul follows food safety and hygiene regulations,” he said.

Regarding the number of victims circulating on social media, which reaches about 280 people, Farhan said that the figure still needs verification. The Bandung City Government has not been able to confirm the actual number because the tracing process is still ongoing. “Not many yet, I don’t know exactly. But it’s being verified. Is it really that many?” he said.

Bandung City Government will conduct further monitoring of the restaurant to determine whether new case reports are still emerging. Farhan explained that supervision is carried out by visiting the location periodically and monitoring the condition of consumers who previously reported.

Regarding the possibility of the restaurant reopening, Farhan said that the decision depends on the final results of the inspection and investigation. “It could be, depending on the final findings. In the end, we’re still waiting for a conclusion,” he said.
