TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Hundreds of students who are members of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Tasikmalaya held a protest in front of the Tasikmalaya City DPRD Office on Wednesday (28/10/2026). They voiced a number of demands related to local and national issues, ranging from waste management, motorcycle gang actions, poverty, to an evaluation of government programs.
During the demonstration, students also criticized the performance of Tasikmalaya Mayor Viman Alfarizi Ramadan and Deputy Mayor Diky Candra. They consider that a number of fundamental problems in Tasikmalaya City still require serious handling.
Criticism was expressed through speeches and banners that mocked the running sport activity often associated with the mayor. One banner read, “Rek nepi iraha lari wae? Rek ceremony mah ulah jadi wali kota!” which means, “How long will you just run? If it’s only for ceremonial activities, don’t be mayor.

Students emphasized that regional leaders must focus more on solving community problems rather than merely attending ceremonial events. Waste issues became one of the main topics of the action. Students considered that waste management in Tasikmalaya City had not yet produced satisfactory results and was still a public complaint.
Furthermore, they urged the local government and the police to strengthen efforts to maintain security, especially in preventing motorcycle gang actions and criminal acts on the streets.
Students also addressed the incident that resulted in the death of two individuals in a previous month’s motorcycle gang-related event. They requested that the incident serve as material for evaluation so that similar events would not recur.
The situation of the action became tense after the crowd waited for more than an hour without meeting representatives from the Tasikmalaya City Government or the Tasikmalaya City DPRD.
Students then urged that their aspirations be accepted immediately. Tension escalated to the point of a shoving match between the crowd and combined officers guarding the front gate of the DPRD building.
Officers from the police, the Public Order Enforcement Agency (Satpol PP), and the TNI attempted to disperse the crowd so they would not enter the building. Students tried several times to open the gate. They then used a rope to pull the gate until they finally succeeded in opening it.
