PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – Pemotongan dana Transfer ke Daerah (TKD) and poor education quality are the two issues highlighted by students in Pangandaran Regency. Amid the push for regional development, students bring up fundamental problems that remain unresolved, ranging from budget constraints to the discovery that some junior high school students are still illiterate.

The concerns were voiced by the Student Executive Board of the Family of Students (BEM Kema) of the Main Off‑Campus Study Program (PSDKU) of Padjadjaran University (Unpad) Pangandaran during a demonstration of aspirations at the Pangandaran Regency DPRD on Friday (23/10/2026).

Students raised several issues, including handling of forest and land fire disasters (karhutla), national concerns, the impact of TKD cuts, and the low education index in Pangandaran.

The protest saw moments of tension when demonstrators attempted to burn used tires and confronted police officers. However, the situation was eventually brought under control. Student representatives were received by DPRD members in the plenary meeting room to convey their aspirations.

Hisyam Maulana, Chairman of BEM Kema PSDKU Unpad Pangandaran, said the action was a demonstration of students’ concern for various issues that require serious government attention, both at the regional and national levels.

According to him, students want to ensure that regional governments, together with legislative, executive, and judicial branches, do not disregard problems that arise in society.

“Our anxiety concerns how the Pangandaran government, as well as the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, view the current disasters and what truly needs to be done,” he said.

Students also urged the DPRD to oversee aspirations related to national policies so that they can be conveyed to the central government. They believe that regional issues cannot be separated from central government decisions, especially when budget policies have the potential to affect public services.

One issue that concerns students is the cut in Transfer to Regions (TKD), which is said to exceed 15 percent. The reduction in transfer funds is feared to affect the region’s ability to finance various development sectors.

Hisyam stressed that the impact is not limited to education but also affects other sectors, including tourism, which is one of Pangandaran’s economic pillars.
