September 9 is being celebrated as the first officially recognized Attack on Titan Day, with the franchise disseminating 99 pieces of worldwide news as part of an extensive anniversary campaign.
The date was officially registered by the Japan Anniversary Association to commemorate September 9, 2009, the day Hajime Isayama’s original Attack on Titan manga began serialization. The series’ recurring motif of nine also ties directly to its Nine Titans.
Among the major announcements is a fresh celebratory illustration created by Isayama exclusively for Attack on Titan Day.
A distinct commemorative image that unites all Nine Titans has been unveiled, along with a special logo inspired by the Doomsday Titan.
The franchise has also debuted its official Attack on Titan YouTube channel, which will host limited‑time anime streams and exclusive videos. An anniversary livestream is set for September 9 on the channel, and a special video introducing the 9 titans can be viewed below.
On the manga front, the first 99 chapters of Attack on Titan will be offered free via Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket for a 99‑hour window starting at 00:00 JST on September 9. Additional commemorative merchandise, featuring the anniversary artwork and an original Isayama illustration of the characters in formal wear, is also being sold through Shonen Magazine Shop.
Koei Tecmo’s forthcoming Attack on Titan 3 received a fresh opening animation key visual created by MAPPA. The game is slated for release on December 10.
Other announcements cover merchandise, events, international partnerships and screenings. These encompass new collaborations with Sanrio Characters, Team Liquid, MSI and ROUND1, additional figurines from firms such as Good Smile Company, Kotobukiya and MEDICOS ENTERTAINMENT, and regional Attack on Titan events and product roll‑outs across Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Europe, Africa and beyond.
The anniversary campaign also featured several light‑hearted updates from Isayama, covering topics from his recent fascination with romantic comedy manga to his thoughts on movies, driving, saunas and food.
