The Japan Anniversary Association has formally designated September 9 as “Attack on Titan Day” to commemorate the day Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan manga launched its serialization back in 2009. A new themed café opened by the franchise in Japan will be in operation from September 3 through October 12, 2026.
The series first appeared on September 9, 2009, within the inaugural issue of Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. For the fresh celebration, a distinctive illustration was unveiled that blends the numeral 9 with the Nine Titans. Moreover, the anniversary emblem includes a design element taken from the Final Titan.
Multiple initiatives have been arranged for September 9. Through Magazine Pocket, readers can enjoy free access to the series up to Chapter 99 for a brief 99‑hour window that launches at midnight Japan Standard Time.
Commemorative items will be available at Magazine Shop. The collection features products that display the fresh anniversary artwork, plus brand‑new illustrations drawn by Isayama that portray Eren, Levi and Erwin in formal attire.
An exclusive live broadcast is set for the night of September 9. The event will feature Yuki Kaji (Eren Yeager’s voice), Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa Ackerman’s voice) and Hiro Shimono (Connie Springer’s voice). During the stream, a range of new information about Attack on Titan will be revealed, with any additional news posted on the franchise’s official X page.
The Attack on Titan manga, penned and drawn by Hajime Isayama, saw its run in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine between September 2009 and April 2021. The storyline was gathered into 34 collected volumes. The television series was produced by WIT Studio for its initial three seasons, then handed over to MAPPA. In total, the anime comprised 94 episodes, with episodes 88‑94 presented as two Final Chapters specials.
The two Final Chapters were merged into the theatrical release THE LAST ATTACK, which features enhanced visual and audio quality. The film opened in Japan on November 8, earning largely favorable critiques and unveiling a fresh post‑credit scene. By December 5, its earnings surpassed one billion yen, and worldwide showings kicked off in early 2025. Crunchyroll launched the movie on its platform on April 17, 2025.
Producer Tetsuya Kinoshita has hinted at upcoming anime ventures, such as additional movies and partnership initiatives. Recently, MAPPA contributed a special illustration for its own 15th anniversary, and the studio has also verified fresh animation for the forthcoming Attack on Titan 3 game.
