MARRIAGETOXIN has unveiled its primary Season 2 artwork, slated to stream beginning in January 2027. In addition, a fresh visual PV and an interview with director Motonobu Hori have been released.
Season 2’s promotional image highlights the expansive bridge where Hikaru Gero rescued Mei Kinosaki during the series premiere. According to the announcement, the composition is crafted to underscore the dynamic duo’s on‑screen chemistry.
Hori confirmed that production on Season 2 is advancing smoothly and teased fresh plot points for Gero and Kinosaki. Returning characters from the first season will reprise their roles, and Gero will also meet another possible romantic interest.
“An enticing new love option appears for Gero, and there are definitely moments where his bond with Kinosaki deepens, so I’m hoping viewers will enjoy that aspect as well.”
Hori emphasized that the aim is to keep the momentum of the first season, even amid a demanding schedule, striving to deliver a sequel that sustains audience engagement from start to finish with comparable vigor.
The director also reflected on the Season 1 reception at Anime Expo 2026, noting that his appearance alongside voice actors Haruki Ishiya (Gero) and Shion Wakayama (Kinosaki) drew unexpectedly strong reactions from international fans.
“I originally thought the story’s cultural flavor would limit its overseas appeal, so I was truly surprised by the enthusiastic response from global viewers.”
When discussing his adaptation approach, Hori explained that MARRIAGETOXIN stands out for its rapid shifts among comedy, action, heartfelt drama, and darker tones. Rather than treating these genres in isolation, the team uses tools such as music to link scenes and maintain a steady emotional flow. He also noted that the fight sequences were kept gritty on purpose, preserving the stark contrast between Joumyaku’s over‑the‑top humor and Mizuki Yoda’s refined art style.

Season 1 comprised 13 episodes, covering the Water Master, Sound Master, and Beast Master story arcs.
Studio BONES Film returns for the animation work, with Crunchyroll handling worldwide streaming. Season 2 is set to premiere in January 2027.

Official synopsis:
