TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The city’s ambition to upgrade its Healthy City status from Swasti Saba Padapa to Swasti Saba Wiwerda remains hindered by unresolved issues in the sanitation sector.

One of the challenges is household waste management, whose indicator achievement stands at only 31.9 percent, far below the 75 percent target.

This situation has become a key focus in the preparations for the 2027 Swasti Saba verification during the Healthy City Forum’s coordination meeting with sub‑district welfare administrators, FKKS and district forums on Thursday (3/9/2026) at the Bappelitbangda auditorium.

The Healthy City Forum of Tasikmalaya, together with regional agencies, is now intensifying the promotion of Total Community‑Based Sanitation (STBM) while also seeking to complete supporting evidence through the Healthy City/District Monitoring Information System (Sipantas).

Undang Hendiana, the daily chairman of Tasikmalaya’s Healthy City Forum, stated that the activity, which involves sub‑district and district welfare administrators as well as healthy district forum managers, is aimed, among other things, at enhancing public understanding of STBM.

“The first is a socialization concerning city policy, namely the strengthening of STBM promotion,” said Undang on Friday (4/9/2026).

In his view, public understanding of the five STBM pillars still needs improvement. In particular, one indicator with low achievement is household waste management.

“How does the community understand the five STBM pillars, especially household waste management? Because our achievement is still low,” he said.

According to KKS integration materials for regional development planning, the five STBM pillars are: Stop Open Defecation (SBS), Hand Washing with Soap (CTPS), management of drinking water and household food, household waste safety, and household liquid waste safety.

The data presented in those materials show that the first pillar has been achieved at 100 percent with commitment, while the CTPS pillar reached 75.5 percent of the 75 percent target.

Nevertheless, management of household drinking water is at only 54 percent, household waste management at 31.9 percent, and household wastewater management at 29.9 percent.

These figures serve as a warning that the healthy city movement should not be limited to administrative tasks.

Moreover, the coordination meeting materials also record several challenges, ranging from uneven changes in public behaviour, non‑sustainable promotion activities, limited operational funding at the village level, to suboptimal cross‑sectoral collaboration.
