Carrying the theme Santri Strengthening the Nation Towards Golden Indonesia, this year’s commemoration serves as a reminder that the contributions of santris do not stop at the historical record of the independence struggle.
The next challenge is to demonstrate abilities through work, dedication, and innovations that have an impact on society.
In that oath, Viman said that the past struggles of santris must be continued by being able to answer the challenges of the times.
If in the past santris fought to defend independence, now they are expected to help strengthen the nation through mastery of religious knowledge as well as science and technology.
“Santris can become clerics, scientists, educators, entrepreneurs, even national leaders. Therefore, master religious knowledge along with science and technology. Preserve the pesantren tradition, but do not be afraid to face change,” Viman said.
The message positions pesantren not merely as a religious educational institution, but also as a space for forming human resources that are competitively skilled. Tradition is maintained, but innovation must not be left behind.
Moreover, Indonesia is eyeing the Golden Indonesia 2045 target, when the nation’s independence reaches a century.

To achieve this vision, a generation that is excellent, integral, adaptable, and has competitiveness amidst global change is needed.
That oath also emphasizes the importance of diligence in pursuing knowledge. The principle of man jadda wajada, meaning that whoever is diligent will succeed, is once again stressed as a value that needs to be applied by santris in life and service.
Besides strengthening intellectual capacity, santris are encouraged to become drivers of economic independence, maintain unity and harmony, and increase environmental awareness.
Religious values are expected to remain the foundation in facing the developments of the times.
The government, in that oath, also affirmed its commitment to strengthening pesantren through the establishment of the Directorate General of Pesantren within the Ministry of Religion.
