CIAMIS, Thecuy.com – The roof of two classrooms at SMP Negeri 1 Cidolog, Cidolog District, Ciamis Regency, gave way early Monday (2/11/2026). The nearly 30‑year‑old structure is believed to have failed because its wooden joists had decayed and could no longer bear the load after heavy rain.

The principal of SMP Negeri 1 Cidolog, Sukendi SPd MPd, verified the occurrence. The room that collapsed had formerly been used as a teachers’ office. Nonetheless, the space had been vacant for more than a year as it was considered unsuitable for use and was scheduled for renewal.

“According to a revitalization survey, the damaged roofed area was already listed for upgrade. The Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Office (DPUTRP) and the Ciamis Regency Education Office assessed that the building was no longer habitable because the wooden roof was severely rotten, prompting its long‑term vacating,” he told Radar on Tuesday (3/11/2026).

Dozens of thousands of worshipers immersed themselves in Tasikmalaya’s Tasawuf prayer gathering at Alun-Alun Manonjaya. DPRD member Iyam Maryani urged stronger supervision of children, citing the Bantarkalong Tasikmalaya girl case as a warning.

In order to prevent safety hazards, the school has cordoned off the building. Apart from the teachers’ room, the library also suffered severe damage; its roof had been removed earlier because its condition was deemed worse.

The two severely damaged rooms are the teachers’ room and the library, he said.

The school, together with the Ciamis Regency Education Office, reported the incident to the Ciamis Regency Disaster Management Agency. Sukendi confirmed that there were no casualties. Teaching and learning activities continued normally because the affected rooms were no longer in use.

It is hoped that this will be included in an accelerated revitalization program advocated by the community and the school, so that the school community can be more comfortable, safe, and representative during learning activities, he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Ciamis Regency Disaster Management Agency, Ani Supiani, said that signs of damage were heard as early as Sunday night (1/11/2026). Around 23.30, the on‑duty officer heard a cracking sound in the wood. At that time, Cidolog was being drenched by rain.

Then, on Monday, November 2, 2026, at around 02.00 in the early morning, the on‑duty officer was startled by a loud crash from the collapsing roof, she said.

After an inspection, the officers found that the roofs of two rooms— the teachers’ room and the on‑duty room—had collapsed. Consequently, several adjacent parts of the building also sustained damage as material from the collapse pulled them.
