PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – The risk of crop failure is not only caused by weather and irrigation issues. Now, farmers in Cikarang Hamlet, Karangmulya Village, Padaherang District, have to confront attacks by gangs of wild monkeys that are ravaging the fruit plants in their orchard.

In the past few days, the group of primates has reportedly often descended into villagers’ fields to look for food.

Various fruit plants that have been cultivated by farmers have become targets. Even fruits on trees that have just begun to produce are not spared from being stolen.

Banana, sawo, coconut, and several other fruit commodities were reported to have been completely eaten by the monkey troupe.

This situation caused residents to complain because the expected harvest from their gardens was first enjoyed by wild animals.

Attacks usually happen in the afternoon. When farmers have left the garden and returned home, the monkey gang can freely enter the plantation area to look for food.

The Head of the Pangandaran KSDA Resort, Kusnadi, suspects that the appearance of wild monkeys in the residents’ plantations is related to a prolonged dry season that affects the availability of food in their natural habitat.

In addition to drought, land fires are also suspected of worsening the environmental conditions, making it difficult for wild animals to find food sources.

As a result, the plantation area and residents’ fields became one of the locations visited by the monkey troupe.

“There is a burned area, water is scarce. Incidentally, there is a spring beneath the area of the garden,” said Kusnadi on Friday (30/10/2026).

In response to this disturbance, Kusnadi advises residents to take simple preventive measures to scare away monkeys when they start entering the plantation.

Farmers can use a kentongan or other object that produces a loud sound to scare the animals away.

Traditional tools such as a slingshot made from car tire rubber are also said to be usable as a means of expulsion.

“If there are monkeys coming to the field, residents can prepare to use traditional tools such as a slingshot made from car tire rubber. They can also use sounds or a kentongan to scare the monkeys,” he explained.

However, residents need to remain careful and avoid actions that could injure wild animals.

This disturbance in the plantation is believed to be related to changes in habitat conditions caused by drought and land fires.
