Thecuy.com – The investment holding company Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) Indonesia says the plan to develop a nuclear power plant (PLTN) is now moving toward a clearer path. A key indicator, per Danantara, is that the project has been incorporated into PLN’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) covering 2025‑2034.

Ardy Muawin, Danantara Indonesia’s Managing Director for Industrialization, stated that nuclear power plants play a crucial role in the country’s energy security. He added that nuclear technology could enable Indonesia to move beyond merely using the technology and develop its own expertise in operating the facilities.

“The primary focus, he noted, is energy security; nuclear power plants, as seen in many advanced nations, are deployed for peaceful uses. The United Arab Emirates, despite its oil wealth, already possesses nuclear power plants,” Ardy remarked during the Danantara Technology Innovation Investment Forum (DTIIF) 2026 held in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Ardy further emphasized that technology transfer is a cornerstone of nuclear power plant development. He argued that Indonesia must achieve expertise in nuclear power generation rather than merely acting as an operator.

“He recalled how the United States transferred technology to South Korea, which subsequently created an advanced version. Indonesia had a nuclear reactor as early as the 1960s, indicating that this ambition has long existed. Danantara could later serve as an orchestrator once the regulatory framework is established and the government finalizes its future actions,” he explained.

He indicated that Danantara is currently waiting for the government to decide on the nuclear power plant development roadmap. When a decision is issued, Danantara claims it possesses a ready ecosystem, encompassing coordination with PLN as the electricity off‑taker.

“The off‑taker is PLN, which may also oversee distribution later. We will coordinate with BRIN or other relevant agencies in this sector. This enables us to orchestrate the entire process, including future funding and collaborative partnerships,” Ardy said.

Beyond electricity generation, nuclear power plants are considered a conduit for ancillary technologies. Ardy pointed out that various sectors, such as healthcare and medicine, are linked to expertise in nuclear technology.

“Hence, the focus extends beyond power generation to encompass technology transfer and the growth of industries that emerge from proficiency in nuclear technology,” he stated.
