PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – A total of 240 electric rickshaws supplied by President Prabowo Subianto were finally handed out to residents of Pangandaran Regency on Monday (28/9/2026). Amid low demand for rickshaw services, this modernization is hoped to boost local interest.
As beneficiaries, the rickshaw drivers in Pangandaran expressed gratitude because they no longer have to pedal manually.
Yaya (76), a rickshaw driver from Cijulang, said he had spent dozens of years earning a living by pedaling his rickshaw. However, his situation has now shifted dramatically. “Now it’s quiet; people wanting to ride a rickshaw don’t come every day,” he told Radar.

The man who usually loitered at the Cijulang square said he often switched jobs when his orders were low. “Sometimes I become a coconut picker, a farmer, or a construction worker,” he said.
Yaya said that when he heard he would receive an electric rickshaw, he was quite happy. However, on the other hand, it didn’t significantly affect his current business situation. “I hope it will be useful, even though fewer people want to ride a rickshaw now,” he said.
Pangandaran Regent, Hj. Citra Pitriyami, expressed deep appreciation to the President for providing 240 free electric rickshaws to residents of Pangandaran aged 50 and above.
“We hope that those who haven’t received the aid can get their turn in the next phase,” he said.
Citra also urged the recipients to maintain and make optimal use of the facility, and stressed a strict prohibition against renting out or selling it.
The Operations Director of the National Solidarity Movement Foundation (YGSN), Brigadier General TNI (Ret.) Sudarwo Aris Nurcahyo, stated that the rickshaw can travel up to 30 kilometers on a single charge, with a maximum speed of about 20 kilometers per hour.
“Its speed matches that of typical electric bicycles. The pace is designed to resemble the cadence of a regular bicycle, so it cannot be compared to a motorcycle,” he said. (Deni Nurdiansah)
