TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The City of Tasikmalaya Scout Branch (Kwarcab) has started to cultivate young journalist cadres within the scouting movement. This initiative is realized through a journalism training and the strengthening of the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) capacity, which was held for two days on September 18‑19, 2026.

Kegiatan yang diinisiasi Bidang Hubungan Masyarakat dan Informasi (Huminfo) Kwarcab Kota Tasikmalaya tersebut digelar di Aula Kwarcab Kota Tasikmalaya. Peserta dibekali berbagai kemampuan dasar jurnalistik, mulai dari mencari informasi, melakukan wawancara, teknik peliputan hingga menyusun berita.

Waka Huminfo Kwarcab Kota Tasikmalaya Eri Kustiaman said that journalism skills are crucial for young people, especially amid the flood of digital information.

In his view, Scout members should not only be active in various organizational activities; they also need the ability to convey information correctly and responsibly to the public.

“Scouts must be able to keep up with the times. One way is by possessing journalism skills so that various activities and potentials they have can be well publicized to the community,” said Eri at the Tasikmalaya City Scout Branch Auditorium on Friday (18/9/2026).

He explained that the training material was not limited to news writing techniques. Participants also gained insight into journalistic ethics, coverage techniques, photography, and the use of digital media as a means of information dissemination.

Eri assessed that these skills could shape Scout members into more critical and meticulous individuals. Moreover, participants were encouraged to habitually verify information before disseminating it.

Young Scout journalists are expected not only to be able to write, but also to have sensitivity to events around them. They must be able to convey information that is correct, balanced, and beneficial to the community, he said.

In his opinion, the training also served as part of strengthening literacy culture among Scout members. Participants were expected to become information agents who disseminate various positive messages to the community.

During the implementation, participants not only received theory but also engaged in journalistic practice. They were invited to understand the flow of journalistic work, from determining issues worthy of reporting, gathering information from sources, processing data to producing journalistic works.
