TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com — The threat of waterlogging on several streets in Tasikmalaya City has started to be addressed.

From previously identifying 11 spots prone to flooding, the number is said to be decreasing now after the Public Works and Spatial Planning Service (PUTR) regularly cleaned the drains.

The Head of the Water Resources Division (SDA) of the Tasikmalaya City PUTR Service, Rino Isa Muharam, said that cleaning the drains is one of the continuous efforts to reduce the risk of flooding, especially in areas that have long been prone to overflow.

Adequate housing remains insufficiently sturdy, prompting the Tasikmalaya City Government to focus on septic tank issues; meanwhile, the Posyandu is no longer limited to weighing toddlers and now assists residents in obtaining decent housing.

“Initially there were 11 spots. The number has started to decline because we frequently clean the drains,” he said on Wednesday (4/11/2026).

Nevertheless, the task of managing flooding has not yet been fully completed.

Because the on‑the‑ground issues involve not only the capacity of the channels but also trash that blocks the water flow.

According to Rino, accumulating rubbish remains one of the main causes of flooding.

When the drains are clogged, water that should flow instead overflows onto the roadways and residential areas.

Several spots are receiving focus this year’s mitigation efforts. Among them are the Ciloa Cihideung River area, Ciromban Cikadut, Cikalang River, Cilutut, Cibeurang, plus other flooded points that require action.

“At present we are concentrating on the flood spots that truly need intervention and improvement,” he said.

Rino emphasized that the effort will be continued next year. Checks and cleaning of the channels will be carried out again to ensure that waste that could hinder water flow does not keep piling up.

Tasikmalaya City Government prepares integrity‑focused school principals rather than administrative experts; data on social assistance remains unresolved, and Viman finds that some Tasikmalaya residents are not registered as aid recipients.

This means that dealing with flooding is insufficient when water has already overflowed. Maintenance of drains must become a regular job so that the same problem does not recur each time it rains.

On the other hand, public awareness is also crucial. Because drains that have been cleaned will not remain clear for long if they become dumping grounds again.

The government can deploy officers and equipment to remove trash, but keeping drains clean requires community participation.

Let the cleaning of drains not become an endless routine because the habit of littering persists. (rezza rizaldi)
