TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The surge in motor vehicle thefts (curanmor) in Tasikmalaya City has drawn the attention of West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Pipit Rismanto.

Moreover, the perpetrators of these street crimes are said to mostly come from teenage groups.

Pipit believes the issue cannot be adequately addressed solely through police enforcement actions.

Supervision by families, education in schools, and involvement of religious and community leaders are considered crucial in preventing youths from indulging in street crimes.

Pipit made the statement following a working visit to the Tasikmalaya City Police Headquarters on Friday (18/9/2026).

According to him, the visit is part of his duty as the Chief of West Java Police to get to know and evaluate the implementation of police duties in the jurisdiction of the West Java Police.

“This is essentially a routine working visit as a Police Chief entrusted to lead the police force, particularly in the West Java region,” said Pipit.

He stated that the evaluation is not limited to internal police duty implementation.

Public perceptions and expectations regarding police services also serve as important inputs for enhancing police performance.

This includes Tasikmalaya City, which is one of the jurisdictions under the West Java Police.

Pipit stated that police personnel are required to be able to adapt to various situations and community characteristics.

Police must also quickly respond to any issues that require the presence of officers.

“Must be able to adapt to anyone, anywhere, in any situation, especially when facing rapidly evolving dynamics,” he said.

In addition to swift response, Pipit emphasized the importance of collaboration. Because, he said, not all societal problems can be solely the responsibility of the police.

“Not all problems are solely the responsibility of the police but are a shared responsibility. Uniting all roles present in Tasikmalaya City to complement each other,” he said.

On that occasion, Pipit also highlighted the issue of motor vehicle thefts in Tasikmalaya City, particularly due to the involvement of teenagers.

He said that prevention must start from the closest environment, especially the family.

Parents are urged not to neglect the activities of their children who are still in their teenage years.

Pipit admitted to having held a social meeting with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), clerics, community leaders, and religious figures to jointly remind parents to be more attentive to their children.
