PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – The plan to reactivate the railway line linking Banjar and Pangandaran is gaining momentum. The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jawa Barat) has pledged to push ahead with the project, aiming to finish it by 2029.
West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan highlighted the need for integrated transport modes. Improvements cannot focus solely on the airport area but must also cover other routes, including the railway not yet extended to Pangandaran and additional transport options to help visitors reach tourist spots.
“We must improve onward transport links to top attractions such as Batukaras Beach and Pangandaran Beach,” he said.

Head of the West Java Transportation Agency, Dhani Gumelar, said that the reactivation of the Banjar‑Pangandaran railway line has been repeatedly discussed and studied. It has also been proposed to the central government for approval.
“Our calculations for the Banjar‑Pangandaran route are quite remarkable, which is why we have also submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Transportation,” he said after the transportation day ceremony at Nusawiru Airport on Friday (18/9/2026).
In addition, his office is currently preparing a Feasibility Study (FS) and a Detailed Engineering Design (DED) to demonstrate its commitment to completing the railway reactivation. “This means that we hope to be able to offer it to investors in the future,” he said.
He said that the reactivation is indeed vital for Pangandaran Regency as a tourist destination.
“Because, once again, the area under the Regent’s authority is very attractive as a favorite West Java tourism spot, but the issue lies with its connectivity,” he remarked.
He said that once the reactivation from Banjar to Cijulang is in place, tourist accessibility would become more efficient. “If we look at the strategic plan we are proposing, it would likely be around 2028‑2029,” he explained.
As part of the planning, they are approaching several investors because relying on government funding alone is considered too burdensome.

“It will definitely be a large undertaking and a matter of time; the details will ultimately be shaped by investors in the transportation sector,” he said. (Deni Nurdiansah)
