The hikers were a 51‑year‑old woman named Maliya Finda from Surabaya and a local guide named Erfan Nasrul Laili, 35, a resident of Desa Traktaan, Wonosari District, Bondowoso.
The missing hikers report was received by Polsek Curahdami on Monday, 3 August 2026, at 17.30 WIB after a Yamaha NMax motorcycle with police number P 2938 ES, which was left by the hikers, was not collected since morning.
The motorcycle was left at a resident’s house since Sunday, 2 August 2026, at 07.00 WIB. Neighbors grew suspicious and reported the incident to the village, sub‑district and Polsek Curahdami because a climb up Gunung Piramid usually takes about eight hours for both ascent and descent on the same day.
Upaya Pencarian
Upon receiving the report, the combined rescue team composed of BPBD Bondowoso, TNI, Polri, Curahdami sub‑district, the Indonesian Mountain Guide Association (APGI) and volunteers immediately conducted initial handling by checking the possible climbing route the two hikers might have taken.
The search started Monday night with limited sweeps to determine the next steps. On Tuesday morning, Bondowoso Police Chief, AKBP Aryo Dwi, led further coordination between the combined rescue team and related agencies to prepare a more intensive search effort.
