HUNTER x HUNTER becomes the most recent Weekly Shonen Jump title to receive a brand‑new music video under the JUMP MV collaboration effort. This clip showcases Yoshihiro Togashi’s enduring series paired with Sakurazaka46’s track titled “Unhappy birthday構文” (also known as “Unhappy Birthday Syntax”) and was unveiled on the official Shonen Jump YouTube channel on August 2.
This partnership represents the 57th installment of the JUMP MV collection, a program that pairs Shonen Jump comics with tracks from Sony Music’s roster via dedicated music videos. Featured in the video are characters Hisoka, Chrollo, and Kurapika. Take a look below.
HUNTER x HUNTER, created by Yoshihiro Togashi, has been in publication since 1998 and its total sales have exceeded 84 million copies globally, with digital versions included. After a four‑year break, the series resumed in October 2022.
Since its return, the series has seen sporadic chapters and, as of December 2022, it was announced that the manga would no longer follow a weekly release schedule. Volume 38 hit stores in Japan on September 4, 2024, and Chapter 401 appeared in WSJ magazine on October 7 of that year.
The anime is available on Crunchyroll, which summarizes the plot as follows:
Gon, a youngster residing on Whale Island, aspires to become a Hunter in order to follow in his father’s footsteps, who departed when Gon was very young.
The track is performed by Japan’s idol collective Sakurazaka46, originally called Keyakizaka46. In recent times the group has risen to become one of the nation’s top‑selling idol units, staging dome concerts, international shows, and a two‑day 5th‑anniversary gala at the Japan National Stadium in 2026 that attracted roughly 140,000 fans. Plans for an Asian tour are also in place for 2027.
The JUMP MV endeavor began with a Naruto partnership and consistently produces music videos that merge WSJ titles with recordings by Sony Music’s talent. Recently, additional pairings have been released, including BLEACH and Haikyu.
Two fresh titles have entered the market under the franchise: HUNTER x HUNTER: NEN IMPACT, released on July 17, 2025, and HUNTERxHUNTER NENxSURVIVOR, which hit shelves on February 17, 2026.
