In the world of anime, strong characters usually take the spotlight because of their incredible fighting abilities. However, there are also characters who aren’t too great in battles but always manage to get through various problems. They often survive thanks to luck, cleverness, or help from those around them. Here are anime characters who appear weak but are lucky.
Interestingly, these characters actually become an entertaining part of the story. Even though they seem cowardly or lack abilities, they still manage to survive in dangerous situations.
Anime Characters Who Appear Weak but Are Surprisingly Lucky
1. Usopp – One Piece
Usopp is one of the Straw Hat crew members known for his cowardly nature and habit of exaggerating stories. Unlike Luffy, Zoro, or Sanji, Usopp doesn’t rely on extraordinary physical strength to face his opponents.
Nevertheless, Usopp has the ability to use ranged weapons, creativity, and cleverness that help him face enemies.
He has also managed to get through dangerous situations that seem difficult to win. Usopp’s courage doesn’t always appear from the start, but he still manages to act when his friends are in danger.
2. Yamcha – Dragon Ball
Yamcha was initially known as a fairly tough fighter in the Dragon Ball series. However, as the story progressed and stronger enemies appeared, his abilities began to lag behind the main fighters.
Nevertheless, Yamcha remains part of the Dragon Ball world. He is not always at the front lines when a major threat appears. This condition makes him relatively safer compared to characters who have to face the strongest enemies directly. Yamcha’s fate shows how a fighter once considered formidable can become a supporting character.
3. Minoru Mineta – My Hero Academia
Minoru Mineta is a student at U.A. High School who has a small appearance and is often portrayed as a cowardly character. He does not possess any remarkable physical strength compared to his classmates.
However, his Quirk, Pop Off, allows Mineta to produce a sticky ball that can be used to hinder an opponent’s movement. This ability makes him useful in certain situations. Mineta also often relies on simple strategies to avoid direct combat. Although he is often the target of jokes, he proves that cleverness can help someone survive in a dangerous environment.
4. Kon – Bleach
Kon is an artificial soul residing inside a lion-shaped doll in the Bleach series. Amidst the battles between Shinigami and powerful Hollows, Kon is not a character who can be relied upon to face the main enemies.
His role is more about providing entertainment through his funny and sometimes exaggerated behavior. He is often outside of major conflicts so he doesn’t have to face threats directly. Although his fighting abilities are limited, Kon’s presence still adds a unique color to the Bleach story.
5. Mr. Satan – Dragon Ball Z
Mr. Satan, also known as Hercule, is a widely recognized figure as the world’s hero in Dragon Ball Z. However, his strength is actually not comparable to Goku, Vegeta, or the enemies they face.
Mr. Satan relies more on popularity, self-confidence, and his ability to attract public attention. In some incidents, he manages to escape dangerous situations because he is considered not a major threat by his opponent. That luck keeps him playing an important role even though he is not the strongest fighter.
Behind his habit of bragging, Mr. Satan has also shown courage and helped others. This makes his character not only a source of comedy but also has a positive side.
6. King – One Punch Man
King is known as one of the greatest heroes in the world of One Punch Man. Many people think he has extraordinary strength and can easily defeat dangerous monsters. In reality, however, the situation is very different.
King actually does not possess any extraordinary fighting abilities as imagined by society. His reputation was formed because of several incidents when he was in the same location as the enemies defeated by Saitama. As a result, people thought King was the one who contributed to the victory.
The luck and reputation that have already formed make King continue to be respected. His character becomes an interesting example of how misunderstanding can transform an ordinary person into a figure considered extraordinary.
7. Reigen Arataka – Mob Psycho 100
Reigen Arataka is a spiritual consultant who often deals with problems related to spirits. Unlike people who have psychic abilities, Reigen actually does not possess any supernatural powers.
Nevertheless, he is able to face various situations by utilizing his intelligence, speaking ability, and understanding of people. Reigen often uses common sense to solve problems that don’t always require fighting.
His ability to convince others sometimes makes opponents underestimate him or cancel their intention to attack. Reigen proves that strength doesn’t always have to be in the form of physical or supernatural abilities. In certain conditions, intelligence and communication can actually become the main advantage.
8. Aqua – KonoSuba
Aqua is a water goddess in the anime KonoSuba who has healing and purification abilities. In theory, her power is very useful for facing various threats. However, her reckless, impulsive nature and tendency to act without thinking often make things more complicated.
Aqua is often involved in problems that could actually be avoided. Nevertheless, she remains an important part of the party led by Kazuma. Her special abilities sometimes become a savior when the group faces difficult situations.
The combination of divine power and silly behavior makes Aqua an interesting comedic character. Her luck often comes together with the chaos she creates herself.
9. Shinji Ikari – Neon Genesis Evangelion
Shinji Ikari is the main character of Neon Genesis Evangelion who has a personality quite different from the typical anime hero. He often feels afraid, doubts himself, and has difficulty facing the pressure given by the people around him.
As an Evangelion pilot, Shinji has to face major threats even though emotionally he is not always ready to face that responsibility. His struggle is not only related to battles but also to internal conflicts and the need to understand himself.
Shinji can be considered a mentally weak character in some situations, but his life journey shows that surviving is not only about winning battles. He must continue to face fears and pressures that affect his life.
10. Yukiteru Amano – Future Diary
Yukiteru Amano is the main character of Future Diary who is initially portrayed as a shy, passive, and insecure person. He then becomes involved in a survival game that requires him to face other participants in very dangerous situations.
Compared to his opponents, Yukiteru does not always have superior courage or fighting abilities. He largely relies on information from the future diary, strategy, and help from his allies to overcome various threats.
As the story progresses, Yukiteru experiences changes in his way of thinking and decision-making. His experience shows that someone who initially appears weak still has a chance to develop when faced with circumstances that force him to survive.
