TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Indonesian Defense Minister, retired TNI General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, stressed that every TNI soldier must always be present, serve, and protect the community. The statement was made during an inspection of the TP 939/Macan Putih Battalion’s readiness at the Tasikmalaya Regency Government Complex on Wednesday (29/7/2026).
The visit was conducted to verify the unit’s readiness prior to occupying a permanent headquarters in Cipatujah District next year. During the inspection, Sjafrie was accompanied by several Indonesian Army officials and directly observed various battalion facilities, ranging from the headquarters area to the kitchen that serves as the center for providing soldiers’ consumption needs.
In front of hundreds of Yonif TP 939/Macan Putih soldiers, Sjafrie emphasized that the identity of a TNI soldier cannot be separated from the people. All military capabilities possessed must be dedicated to protecting the community and maintaining the unity of the Republic of Indonesia.

“We are the people’s army. You were born to parents who are the people. Now you have become soldiers, wearing berets and camouflage uniforms, trained in tactical skills, shooting, and patrolling. All of that is intended to defend the people,” he said.
He also reminded that while stationed in a headquarters surrounded by the community, every soldier must be able to provide benefits and build good relationships with residents as a form of appreciation for the community’s support of the TNI.
“While being here surrounded by the people, we must repay their services. I am glad to hear that Battalion 939 soldiers are already present among the community,” he remarked.
Sjafrie disclosed that he has received reports that the TP 939/Macan Putih Battalion is scheduled to move to a permanent headquarters in the southern Tasikmalaya area next year.
In his opinion, the relocation must become a momentum to strengthen service to the community while increasing the operational readiness of the unit.
“I have already received reports that next year you will move to a new base. There too you must continue to serve the people and be ready to be deployed across the entire country because you are soldiers of the Indonesian National Army,” he said.
In addition to emphasizing the importance of serving the people, the Minister of Defense also motivated the soldiers to continuously improve themselves by setting higher career goals through hard work and discipline.
