BANDA ACEH – The Traffic Police Unit (Satlantas) of Banda Aceh Police has impounded 80 motorcycles equipped with non‑standard exhaust systems, commonly known as brong exhausts, during a July 2026 enforcement operation.
These actions form part of a broader drive to ensure traffic safety, order and flow (Kamseltibcarlantas) and respond to public complaints about noise from brong‑fitted vehicles, especially during illegal street races in several areas.
Patrols were carried out at multiple locations within the Banda Aceh Police jurisdiction, in cooperation with the Mobile Squad Unit (UKL), targeting riders with non‑standard exhausts and other traffic offences. Motorcycles found with brong exhausts were immediately seized for processing under the applicable legal framework.
The Chief of Banda Aceh Police, Commissioner Andy Kirana, through the Head of Traffic Police, Kompol Mawardi, urged the public, especially teenagers and motorcyclists, to avoid fitting their vehicles with loud exhausts, as this not only breaches regulations but also disrupts public order and residents’ comfort.
Future operations to clamp down on brong exhausts will continue on a regular basis, reflecting the Banda Aceh Police’s commitment to a safe, orderly and conducive traffic environment in the city, he said on Wednesday (29/7/2026).
In addition to law enforcement, traffic officers also educated riders on the importance of using technically compliant vehicles and preserving public comfort. Motorists whose bikes were impounded must replace the brong exhaust with a factory‑standard one before reclaiming their vehicle and complete all required administrative steps, according to Kompol Mawardi.
During July 2026, the Banda Aceh Traffic Police seized brong‑fitted motorcycles at various events, including illegal street races held in Ulee Lheue, Lampeuneurut, Blang Bintang, Batoh and other locations.
“We have detained 80 motor vehicles; their specifications have been significantly altered, which would disturb other residents’ comfort while they rest or use public roads,” said Kompol Mawardi.
Meanwhile, we have conducted Kamseltibcarlantas outreach both during School Environment Orientation (MPLS) sessions and when serving as ceremony inspectors at various schools.
“There are still minors committing traffic offences; we have been carrying out weekly school sosialisasi programmes,” the head of traffic added.
We advise parents to monitor children aged 13‑16 who ride motorcycles at night; between 01.00 WIB and dawn they are frequently found engaging in illegal street races,” concluded Kompol Mawardi.
