TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The Tasikmalaya City Health Department (Dinkes) is now on high alert for a possible surge in dengue fever cases as the season transitions from dry to rainy. A series of preventive actions have already been set in motion, covering mosquito larvae monitoring and public education campaigns on how to avoid the disease.

The head of the Tasikmalaya City Health Department, dr. H. Asep Hendra Hendriana, said that seasonal changes are a critical period to watch out for because they can boost the breeding of dengue‑transmitting mosquitoes.

“We have been paying close attention to this seasonal shift. That’s why early preventive measures must be implemented now to stop a potential spike in dengue cases,” he stated.

According to Asep, these vigilance efforts also align with the central government’s focus through the Ministry of Health. The Tasikmalaya City Health Department has issued a circular as guidance for relevant agencies to act proactively.

“We have already distributed the circular as a preventive measure against a possible rise in dengue cases. We won’t wait for the situation to worsen before taking action,” he added.

He explained that even though Tasikmalaya City is still experiencing a dry spell, rains have started to fall in several areas, including parts of West Java. Nonetheless, the exact start date of the rainy season in the city remains uncertain.

“It’s still the dry season now, but some regions have begun receiving rain. We can’t predict when rainfall will become consistent across Tasikmalaya City; it could happen sooner or later,” he clarified.

To prepare for this scenario, the Health Department has directed all community health centers to intensify monitoring in their respective areas. A key priority is inspecting potential breeding sites for Aedes aegypti larvae.

“Teams from the health centers have already been deployed to conduct monitoring and preventive activities. Larvae surveillance continues, especially in high‑risk neighborhoods,” Asep reported.

He stressed that rising rainfall levels require collective attention. Stagnant water in various containers can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes if not cleared promptly.

“The main concern is when rainfall intensifies. We must prevent any puddles or water storage containers from becoming mosquito breeding sites,” he emphasized.
