TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Cases of violence against women and children in Tasikmalaya City have become a serious concern. The Regional Technical Implementation Unit for Women’s and Children’s Protection (UPTD PPA) recorded that the handling realization reached 170 cases, or 125.9 percent of the target of 135 cases.

Beyond the high number of cases handled, a worrying issue is the discovery of children aged 14 to 16 who have given birth. This situation draws attention due to its relation to children’s vulnerability, women’s protection, and the continuity of their education.

The Head of the UPTD PPA of Tasikmalaya City, Epi Mulyana, stated that the case handling realization up to now has surpassed the set target. Moreover, the number still has the potential to increase in the coming months.

“Looking at the trend, there is an increase compared to the previous year. What worries us is that in the next three months the number could rise again. Such cases are hard to predict,” said Epi.

According to him, the achievement should be used as a basis for evaluation to strengthen services and enhance efforts to prevent violence against women and children.

“When viewed against the target, the realization has exceeded it. This certainly warrants attention because handling cases is not merely about quantity, but also ensuring victims receive services, accompaniment, and protection according to their needs,” he said.

Data from the UPTD PPA of Tasikmalaya City shows that case handling for adult women also exceeded the set target. Of the target of 45 cases, the realization reached 61 cases, or 135.6 percent. Thus, there is a surplus of 16 cases above the goal.

The high realization of case handling indicates the importance of strengthening protection services for victims. Every report must be addressed by considering the victim’s condition, the need for accompaniment, and the risk of repeated violence.

One of the issues that draws the attention of the UPTD PPA of Tasikmalaya City is the existence of children aged 14 to 16 who have given birth.

Epi stated that the situation requires serious attention as it relates to children’s vulnerability and the need for more comprehensive protection. He also highlighted findings that some of these cases involve children in clandestine marriages.

“In this regard, there are two vulnerabilities that must be considered. The most heartbreaking aspect is that most of the children who have given birth are in a nikah siri (common-law) marriage,” said Epi.
