Wandering Planet Toys has unveiled the Showa WarLor, a fresh addition to its Planetoid Raiders line, drawing inspiration from the aesthetic and vibe of Japan’s Showa-era tokusatsu, manga, anime, and toys. Anime Corner gets an exclusive early look at the figure before New York Comic Con 2026, and the Kickstarter campaign is now live.
The Showa WarLor gives a fresh spin to the original WarLor, featuring a revamped palette, a Japanese Planetoid Raiders emblem, and brand‑new cardback art. It pays homage to the period that birthed icons like Godzilla, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and Super Sentai, plus the sofubi toys tied to Japan’s monster and hero lore.
The launch aligns with the centennial of Japan’s Showa era, which spanned 1926‑1989.
Chris “Doc” Wyatt, co‑founder of Wandering Planet Toys, offered this comment:
“Villains and colossal beasts, beware—WarLor will swell to Kaiju‑size and send you back to Monster Island. SKREEONK!!!”
Fellow co‑founder Gavin Hignight also contributed his thoughts:
“What a sight! A cosmic rift seems to have opened, pulling this version of WarLor from an alternate universe. He was already mysterious, but now we discover a whole new persona and paint job. Has this time‑traveling explorer ever missed a destination? I hope he brings as much joy to other collectors as he does to us!”
Showa WarLor becomes part of the larger Planetoid Raiders collection, offering retro‑inspired 1:18‑scale action figures with five joint points. The series takes cues from Kenner’s 1978 Star Wars toys and Tomland Toys’ Starroid Raiders, blending classic sci‑fi design with fresh characters.
The debut lineup also features Captain Oton, Helmsman Ryot, Yogun, and the original WarLor, with more models to be unveiled during the Kickstarter run. Each figure can be bought solo on retro‑style cardbacks or as a set inside a metal lunchbox‑style collector’s case, illustrated by Bill Rude.
Wandering Planet Toys is presently crowd‑funding the Planetoid Raiders series on Kickstarter, offering Showa WarLor and the full collection for pre‑order before New York Comic Con 2026.
