CIAMIS, Thecuy.com – The ongoing dry season in Ciamis district is beginning to severely affect clean water supplies. In addition to drought, parched land also raises the danger of forest and land fires (Karhutla).
According to data received by the Ciamis Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), as many as 33,878 people are experiencing a shortage of clean water. Meanwhile, the area of land and forest that has burned reached 28,053 hectares.
If rainfall does not come soon, the situation could worsen. The Ciamis Regency government has asked all government elements to assist the affected population, both due to clean water shortages and Karhutla.

Ciamis Regent, Herdiat Sunarya, has deployed civil servants, Perumdam Tirta Galuh, and village officials to actively assist the community. He said tackling the effects of the dry season requires cooperation from everyone.
Herdiat said that the region has been experiencing drought for several months due to the absence of rainfall and is in need of clean water supplies. Therefore, the Ciamis Regency government continues its efforts to aid drought-affected communities.
“The local government continues to assist communities experiencing drought by distributing clean water,” he said yesterday.
He also explained that urban residents are partly helped by PDAM services. However, not all areas are served by PDAM networks, so the local government continues to distribute water to areas in need.
“Urban areas may be assisted by PDAM, but not all are served by PDAM; every day, no less than 40 to 50 water tankers are dispatched to meet the needs of people in areas experiencing water difficulties,” he said.
Herdiat also urged civil servants and village officials not only to assist in direct handling but also to educate the community. Prudent water use is crucial for dealing with the prolonged dry season.
“Civil servants and village officials must help educate the community to face the dry season, which has lasted about four months, by using clean water wisely,” he said.
