Thecuy.com, Serang – Police Chief of Serang, AKBP Andri Kurniawan, directed all police personnel to tighten forest and land fire (karhutla) prevention measures during the dry season. This step was taken as an anticipatory effort to address the increased fire risk due to dry and hot weather conditions.
The instruction was delivered after a karhutla readiness rally at Mapolres Serang, attended by the Regent of Serang, Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), main police officials, district police chiefs, and various related agencies including the TNI, BPBD, Fire Department, Basarnas, Health Department, and PMI.
Langkah Pencegahan dan Edukasi Masyarakat
Police Chief Andri urged the public not to clear land by burning, to avoid burning trash during hot and windy weather, and not to discard cigarette butts indiscriminately. Residents were also asked to promptly report any fire sightings via the police emergency service 110 so that handling could be carried out swiftly and accurately.
In addition, district police chiefs were instructed to intensify community education as part of efforts to reduce fire potential. Coordination with the TNI, subdistrict governments, and villages was also strengthened to enhance readiness at the local level.
Kesiapsiagaan Menghadapi Musim Kemarau Panjang
A prolonged dry season is predicted to elevate the risk of forest, land, and residential fires in Serang Regency. The Police Chief cited data from the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) which estimated low rainfall during the dry season across most of Indonesia, including Serang.
This condition has the potential to cause drought, a clean water crisis, crop failure, health disturbances, and a higher risk of fire, especially during the peak of the dry season in August 2026. Therefore, readiness becomes the main key in minimizing the impact of the disaster.
Koordinasi dan Persiapan Teknis
The Police Chief also instructed the district police chiefs to carry out various technical preparations, including:
- Checking the readiness of firefighting equipment
- Updating maps of fire‑prone areas
- Recording water sources that can be used for firefighting
- Formulating a contingency plan for handling karhutla
- Deploying integrated patrols in hazardous areas
- Conducting simulations for forest and land fire handling
Peran Pemerintah Daerah
Regent of Serang, Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah, emphasized that the Serang Regional Government will strengthen disaster mitigation efforts to protect the community and environment. Collaboration among government elements, TNI, Polri, and related agencies is expected to expedite and improve accuracy in handling fires if they occur.
With good synergy, the risk of forest and land fires can be minimized, thereby preventing negative impacts on community life and the ecosystem as optimally as possible.
This effort is an essential part of being prepared to face a widespread dry season that affects not only the environment but also the social and economic aspects of the Serang Regency community.
