TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – The plan to install a permanent barrier on Papayan-Cikalong Road in Tasikmalaya Regency was called off on Wednesday (16/9/2026). The installation was postponed following objections raised by dozens of representatives from the Tasela entrepreneurs’ association and freight truck drivers.
According to data from the Transportation Services Division of the Tasikmalaya Regency Dishubkominfo, around 50 individuals representing both the business association and truck drivers attended to voice their opposition to the portal installation.
They asked the local government to hold a meeting or hearing first, involving the Regent of Tasikmalaya, the Regional Secretary, the Head of Dishubkominfo, and the Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency.

The hearing was intended to voice aspirations and request policy adjustments concerning freight vehicle activity on the Papayan-Cikalong route.
Ade Suryana, Head of Supervision, Control, and Operations at the Transportation Services Division of Tasikmalaya Regency Dishubkominfo, stated that the installation of a permanent portal had been scheduled for Wednesday (16/9/2026) at 09.00.
“Yes, today it was planned to install a permanent portal on Papayan-Cikalong Road. Because of an action by some community members whose motives were unclear, the installation was not carried out,” Ade said.
According to Ade, the portal installation plan stemmed from a cross-sectoral meeting involving Dishubkominfo, Satpol PP, Muspika of Salopa District, Jatiwaras District, Cikalong District, the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, and the Tasikmalaya Police Traffic Unit. The installation also follows instructions from the Regent of Tasikmalaya.
The envisaged barrier consists of two hinged iron gates. It will be placed on a concreted stretch of road to restrict vehicles with specific dimensions and load capacities.
Ade explained that the portal installation aims to preserve road quality and extend the lifespan of Papayan-Cikalong Road for up to five years ahead. The policy also addresses the road’s width, which is approximately three meters.
He noted that large vehicles such as tronton trucks or containers, which are about 2.5 meters wide, further narrow the available road space, potentially leading to congestion and traffic jams.

Essentially, according to Ade, the portal is intended to restrict freight vehicles with a width of about 2.5 meters, such as tronton trucks.
The restriction is planned to apply to vehicles with a width between 2.2 and 2.3 meters. In addition to vehicle dimensions, the limits also cover cargo weight; passing vehicles are expected to carry a maximum load of eight tons to better maintain road conditions.
