The East Palace is a Korean sageuk drama that tells the story of a curse in the Eastern Palace that has existed for 30 years. During that period, mysterious deaths frequently occurred in the Eastern Palace, claiming the lives of royal descendants.

Many people believed that the deaths were caused by a mysterious spirit residing in the palace's pond. Therefore, the king (Cho Seung Woo) summoned Gu Cheon (Nam Joo Hyuk) to the palace to exorcise the spirit and prevent further mysterious deaths among the royal lineage.

Gu Cheon is a man with a cold personality who possesses the ability to exorcise spirits by directly crossing over into the spirit world, also known as the Gwi world.

On the other hand, the king also summoned Saeng Gang (Roh Yoon Seo) to the palace to monitor Gu Cheon. Saeng Gang, who disguises herself as a maid, is actually the daughter of one of the king's concubines who was expelled from the palace in her childhood because she has the ability to hear spirits.

As time passes, both Gu Cheon and Saeng Gang uncover a more complex mystery than simply hunting spirits in the Eastern Palace.
