The work debuted on the Shosetsuka ni Naro site in October 2015, and Earth Star Entertainment released a printed version under its Earth Star Novel label starting February 2016; both concluded on April 15, 2019.
There is a manga adaptation by Tsubasa Hazuki that started on Earth Star Entertainment’s Comic Earth Star website in June 2017 and remains ongoing. J‑Novel Club has secured English licensing for both the light novel and the manga. Overall sales have topped 1.7 million copies.
The narrative centers on a man who awakens in the body of his MMO avatar, Lufas Maphaahl, known as the Black‑Winged Tyrant and commander of the Twelve Heavenly Stars, two centuries after her defeat in a player‑driven incident within the game Exgate Online. This situation is no longer a virtual one but real life. Having long since lost her empire and now only feared in legend, Lufas explores a new realm seeking clues, companions, and a means to battle the turmoil and monsters that followed her demise.
