The Apothecary Diaries is about to receive its inaugural console title, The False Imperial Brother, slated for release in early 2027.
The puzzling adventure will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC through Steam. An artwork for the package was shown together with the news.
The creator of the original series, Natsu Hyuga, holds credit for the game’s brand‑new storyline. The title is described as a mystery adventure focusing on Maomao, where medicine and deduction once more are key to revealing the truth.
The official introduction is described:
“Medicine will eventually become poison.
A palace mystery where medicine and deduction uncover everything.
A fresh narrative in which ‘five mysteries’ and ‘five curses’ become entangled.
What lies behind the ‘false imperial brother’ that Maomao finally uncovers?”
Natsu Hyuga pens the The Apothecary Diaries light novel series, illustrated by Toko Shino. Shunfunotomo publishes the work in serial. There are two manga versions: one scripted by Itsuki Nanao and drawn by Nekokurage, and another written and drawn by Minoji Kurata.
J-Novel Club releases the novel in English, whereas Square Enix publishes the manga. The tale centers on Maomao, a young herbalist who is sold into the emperor’s palace as a lowly attendant. Not one to simply obey, she ends up aiding Jinshi, the handsome palace official.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 anime will debut on October 2, 2026, with a second cour slated for April 2027. An original film will be released between the two cours, and a live‑action adaptation has just been confirmed for 2028.
