TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com—Flights at Tasikmalaya’s Wiriadinata Airport have been restarted a few times, yet they keep failing to take off. Any fresh push to resume service should be carefully studied first, not rushed.

Trials of the flights are set for 31 October 2026. The Tasikmalaya city administration has not yet named which carrier will run the service.

H Wahid, deputy chairman of Tasikmalaya City DPRD, said he was unaware of the specifics concerning the Wiriadinata Airport revival. The city’s administration has not yet formally reached out about the matter, he added. “I’d heard something, but I’m not sure; there’s been no official word from the city government,” he told Radar.

85 assets have been handed over to Tasikmalaya City Government, yet 41 were returned to the Regency via a grant; a youth was stabbed while hanging out under the bridge on Tasikmalaya Utara Ring Road.

H Wahid said reviving flights isn’t a simple matter. Past efforts showed airlines struggled to stay because ticket sales were weak. “We mustn’t have an opening flight with no subsequent flights,” he warned.

More research is required before any decision to bring the airport and flights back into service, so authorities can gauge whether regular operations are feasible. “Has anyone really looked into this? As far as I know, no proper study on airport revival has been done,” he remarked.

He noted that the re‑activation push seemed to be a non‑event for airlines, the airport, and the city government. It should serve as both a promotion and a way to gauge public interest in air travel. “It should be heavily advertised, but it feels hush‑hush, I’m confused,” he said.

Mayor of Tasikmalaya, Viman Alfarizi Ramadhan, earlier confirmed plans for a test flight. “We will hold a trial on 31 October 2026,” he stated on Friday (16/10/2026).

Following the trial, the city will examine market demand and assess how viable regular operations would be, pinpointing which days could host routine flights.

“We’ll later chart its potential on which days it could work and how realistic it is, given the long hiatus from flights,” he explained.

The Tasikmalaya city administration, Viman said, isn’t working alone. Central government officials are also assisting in efforts to bring flights back to the airport.
