The anime adaptation of SSS-Class Revival Hunter will debut in January 2027, unveiling a teaser image, the first trailer, and the main cast and crew. Crunchyroll has announced it will broadcast the series worldwide.
Takeo Otsuka portrays Kim Gongja, while Satoshi Hino provides the voice for the Sword Emperor.
Kim Gongja starts out as an F‑class Hunter, then acquires an S+ copy ability that triggers after his demise. After seeing a scandal involving the Flame Emperor, the top‑rank Hunter, he is slain. He then exploits a duplicated power that rewinds him twenty‑four hours each time he dies, propelling him onto a vengeful journey that ultimately aims to make him one of the most powerful Hunters ever.
The Sword Emperor, a one‑time elite Hunter, turns into Gongja’s spectral ally via the latter’s copy ability. Seeing Gongja’s promise, he steps in as his partner, and the anime follows both of them as they strive for even greater power together.
Hiroaki Sakurai, famed for The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., is helming the anime at STUDIO fu. Sayuri Oba oversees the screenplay, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu is in charge of character design.
Hiroaki Sakurai, known for The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., is directing the anime at STUDIO fu. Sayuri Oba is overseeing the scripts, while Takahiro Yoshimatsu is serving as character designer. Sakurai remarked:
“The source started as a novel, later becoming a comic that captured global fans. It’s a proud moment to adapt it into anime, yet I also sense the weight.
But! When Takahiro Yoshimatsu joined as character designer, I sensed the route for this anime instantly broadened and brightened. With the entire team, talent, and music’s strength reinforcing the journey, I feel the production is progressing steadily.”
“SSS-Class Revival Hunter is a beloved Korean title that shines for its fast‑paced, roller‑coaster drama.
Initially Gongja is a low‑rank Hunter, yet he masters the card he discovers and climbs the tiers using a true ‘reset‑upon‑death’ cheat‑like ability.
I hope viewers relish the story’s unpredictable, original twists each episode, and I’m confident both die‑hard fans and newcomers will find it satisfying.”
“After being asked to design the characters and reviewing the source, I discovered countless captivating figures!
Right away I felt compelled to illustrate them.
I thought, ‘This is precisely the kind of challenge Yoshimatsu needs now.’
I’m focusing solely on the main character designs, yet I’m delighted to collaborate with Director Sakurai once more after many years.”
Crunchyroll will broadcast SSS-Class Revival Hunter across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS region, the Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The Korean webtoon created by Shin Noah and illustrated by Bill K launched in December 2020 and has released 151 chapters so far. An English version can be read on Tapas.
