Kagurabachi anime unveiled Miku Itō as Hinao and Miyari Nemoto as Char Kyonagi, alongside fresh character art and separate trailers for each. This much‑watched series is slated to debut in April 2027, with Crunchyroll handling global distribution (excluding Japan, mainland China, North Korea, and South Korea).

Studio Cypic oversees the animation production, helmed by director Tetsuya Takeuchi. Takeuchi is best known for choreographing the Rock Lee vs. Gaara fight in *Naruto*. We also previously had the opportunity to interview CyberAgent’s Takahiro Yamauchi, who discussed the company’s aim to produce “high‑quality Japanese animation works that can be accepted globally.”

The principal creative team for the series is as follows:

  • Director: Tetsuya Takeuchi
  • Character Design: Keigo Sasaki
  • Production: Cypic

Previously, the anime revealed the following voice cast:

Hinao is employed at Café Haru Haru, acting as a broker who links those seeking aid with sorcerers. She takes Char under her wing and introduces her to Chihiro and the rest of the crew.

Miku Ito Comment

Q. What are your impressions of the character you voice, and what did you keep in mind while voicing them?

I was instructed to deliver natural, everyday dialogue that fit the series’ tone, so I tried to keep my performance easygoing and authentic.

With Hinao, I enjoyed highlighting her lighter, funnier moments whenever they came up, aiming to amplify those scenes with extra charm.

The whole team shows tremendous commitment and respect for the project, and I’m excited to keep recording her character.

Q. How did you feel when you were cast, and what are your thoughts on the anime?

From the first pages of *Kagurabachi*, Hinao captured my interest; she stands out as a one‑of‑a‑kind figure in the story and immediately fascinated me. During the audition I was doubtful about whether I could pull off the part, but I was thrilled beyond measure when I learned I’d been chosen. I want to portray Hinao so that her time at “Cafe Haru Haru” feels like a warm, welcoming space in the series, and I’ll do my best to make everyone love her anime incarnation as well.

Q. What were your thoughts when you first read the manga?

The characters and plot are both intense and stylish—reading it felt like watching a film. What really caught my eye, though, was how beautifully the goldfish were illustrated. I’m eager to see them animated.

Q. What is Hinao’s greatest charm?

Hinao acts as a kind of liaison, linking the underworld with sorcerers. Despite being deeply familiar with what appears to be a perilous realm, she’s adorable and stays refreshingly casual and grounded—a quality I find delightful. Her twin‑buns and laid‑back attire give her a bright, upbeat vibe, yet she’s also compassionate and nurturing. There’s an aura about her that makes people feel safe and comfortable, adding another layer to her appeal. I especially respect how she can easily mingle with anyone and treat everyone the same.

Q. How would you describe the appeal of the series in one phrase?

“The essence of cool Japanese culture.” To be honest, I couldn’t think of a more punchy line! Beyond the swordplay, fights, mental depth, and the parent‑child bond, the series is packed with small details that feel distinctly Japanese. Reading it really made me think, “Japan is so awesome!”—that’s why I settled on that phrase.

Miyari Nemoto Comment

Q. What are your impressions of the character you voice, and what did you keep in mind while voicing them?

Char has very brief dialogue, so I felt a lot of pressure to convey all her emotions clearly and succinctly. Yet once we started recording, I actually enjoyed bringing her to life.

Q. How did you feel when you were cast, and what are your thoughts on the anime?

When my manager personally informed me at the agency that I’d landed the role of Char, I let out such a loud laugh that a staff member had to quietly ask me to keep it down. Haha. Even after that, until I actually got the script, I kept doubting, “Is this really me?” I was torn between excitement and nervousness!

Q. What were your thoughts when you first read the manga?

It’s grim, yet it carries the hopeful vibe typical of a *Jump* title. The humor isn’t overbearing; it blends seamlessly into the heavier scenes. I also noticed a stylish precision in how the narrative unfolds. But to be honest, I’m not familiar with all the intricate details—just that it’s super enjoyable to read!

Q. What is Char’s greatest charm?

Personally, I think she has a knack for making people feel at ease. Even though she carries a heavy load herself, she radiates energy. When she’s not cheerful, it makes the audience feel down too—that’s part of why she’s so endearing. During recording, a senior cast member said, “This role fits you perfectly.” I was about to get happy, but then they chuckled, “…Because you’re the type who doesn’t pick up on social cues. Haha.” W-Wait, whaaaat!?!

Q. How would you describe the appeal of the series in one phrase?

“Japanese swords are seriously cool.”

The series kicked off its promotional tour with screenings at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Japan Expo in Paris, and AnimagiC in Germany, then visited Otakon in Washington, D.C. on August 2, before wrapping up at Anime NYC later that month. Most venues offered an early preview of the first 20 minutes of Episode 1, and some events even included staff and cast meet‑ands greets.

The tale centers on the young Chihiro, who was taught the art of sword‑smithing by his father. After his father is murdered, Chihiro embarks on a vengeful quest, confronting yakuza and sorcerers who stand in his way. The official synopsis:

Blazing determination, forged in hatred.

Chihiro Rokuhira dreams of becoming a swordsmith, having trained daily alongside his father Kunishige, a master of the craft. Their once‑happy days are shattered when the enigmatic sorcerer group, the Hishaku, strikes.

What they lose are the six Enchanted Blades—powerful swords that can shape a nation’s destiny—along with the gentle life they once shared.

From that moment, everything changes. In a world cloaked in darkness, Chihiro wields Enten, the seventh Enchanted Blade left by his father, and begins a brutal journey of revenge.

The debut teaser trailer quickly raked in over six million views within its first day, and you can watch it below.
