KAGURABACHI anime has cast Yuichi Nakamura as Soshiro Azami, unveiling a fresh visual and a dedicated trailer. Nakamura’s casting adds to the already‑confirmed main cast ahead of the series’ April 2027 debut.

Studio Cypic oversees the animation production, helmed by director Tetsuya Takeuchi. Takeuchi is best known for the Rock Lee vs. Gaara fight in Naruto. In a previous interview, CyberAgent’s Takahiro Yamauchi discussed the company’s aim to produce “high‑quality Japanese animation works that can be accepted globally”.

The main staff for the anime includes:

  • Director: Tetsuya Takeuchi
  • Character Design: Keigo Sasaki
  • Production: Cypic

Previously, the anime revealed the following voice cast:

Azami is a sorcerer linked to the Kamunabi and among the few who know about Chihiro’s hidden existence. He’s considered one of the group’s most powerful members, wielding extraordinary physical strength that can crush foes with devastating force.

Nakamura shared the following full comments about joining the series:

Even though there are still relatively few characters, I focused on how he balances with the others. This will really pay off when many more characters appear later…! I played the role seeing him as someone serious, but with a somewhat dry demeanor.

I approached the role viewing him as someone who is serious, yet carries a bit of a dry demeanor.

On being cast and his impressions of the anime, he said:

I read the manga while auditioning for the part, and I felt it captured the recent ‘spirit of Jump.’ I was eager to see what happens next, so I ended up reading every released volume! I’m thrilled to see those memorable scenes come to life in the anime.

I’m incredibly excited to see all those memorable scenes brought to life in the anime.

Nakamura also commented on the original manga:

Even though it begins with a dark tone, the protagonist’s convictions and goals are clearly defined, making it quite enjoyable to read. Action might grab attention first, but the world‑building, artistic sensibility, and the evolving story are equally compelling.

The action may be what catches people’s attention first, but the worldbuilding, artistic sensibility, and unfolding story are equally captivating.

On Azami’s appeal, he added:

He seems to me a realist who contrasts with the romanticist Shiba. He’s empathetic, but there’s something intriguing about his slight detachment. I believe his appeal will grow more evident as the narrative unfolds.

He strikes me as a realist who serves as a contrast to the romanticist Shiba. He’s compassionate, yet there’s something interesting about how he stays slightly detached. I think he’s a character whose appeal will become increasingly apparent as the story progresses.

Asked to describe the series in one phrase, Nakamura answered:

Blazing hot!

The series is directed by Tetsuya Takeuchi, with Keigo Sasaki overseeing character design and Cypic handling animation production. Shochiku and CyberAgent head the production committee.

After premieres at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Japan Expo in Paris, and AnimagiC in Germany, the anime also screened at Otakon in Washington, D.C. on August 2, before wrapping the tour at Anime NYC later that month. Part 2 of the tour is scheduled for upcoming conventions in Johannesburg and Melbourne.

The tale centers on the young Chihiro, who was trained by his father to be a swordsmith. After his father’s murder, Chihiro embarks on a vengeful quest, facing yakuza and sorcerers as adversaries. The official synopsis:

Blazing resolve ignited by hatred. Chihiro Rokuhira dreams of becoming a swordsmith and trains daily under his father Kunishige, a celebrated bladesmith. Their once‑joyful days are shattered by a brutal assault from the enigmatic sorcerer group known as the Hishaku. Stolen from them are the six Enchanted Blades—powerful swords that can shape a nation’s destiny—and the warm life they once enjoyed. From that moment, everything changes. In a world swallowed by darkness, Chihiro wields Enten, the seventh Enchanted Blade left by his father, and begins a bloody quest for vengeance.

The anime’s first teaser trailer gathered over 6 million views in its initial 24 hours, and you can watch it below.
