Kyoto Animation Releases Animated Commercial for Reiko Yoshida’s Sogen no Kagayaki Novel

Kyoto Animation has unveiled a fresh animated advert for Sogen no Kagayaki, a work penned by Reiko Yoshida and drawn by Yukiko Horiguchi. The title first saw the light of day under the studio’s KA Esuma Bunko imprint on November 22, 2023.

The spot was crafted in storyboards and directed by Uno Nakata, while Tomomi Sato acted as animation director. Nakata and Sato also took charge of the key animation. The principal production team features:

Sogen no Kagayaki tells the story of Tao, a youth who has difficulty settling into his restructured family after his mother remarries. He enrolls in a public school seeking relief from his home environment, yet he still feels disconnected from his peers.

Eventually, Tao buries a colchicum bulb in a neglected corner of the school campus; it flourishes unnoticed until a fellow student stumbles upon it. The narrative charts the youths’ development and maturation.

The debut of the animated commercial is bolstered by a promotional drive for the book. Kyoto Animation has likewise broadened the excerpts that can be perused without charge in Japan.

The novel is credited to Reiko Yoshida as its writer, with illustrations by Yukiko Horiguchi. Yoshida is celebrated for scripting numerous hit anime films and series such as K-On!, A Silent Voice, and Studio Ghibli’s The Cat Returns.
