PANGANDARAN, Thecuy.com – Besides water shortages, attacks by the brown planthopper have also become a cause of rice plant damage in Pangandaran. This is one of the problems faced by farmers.
Yanto, Head of Paledah Village, Padaherang District, said that pest problems are a major complaint expressed by farmers in the area.
Of the various types of pests that appear, the brown planthopper is the most discussed by farmers this year. “What is currently being talked about a lot by the farming community is the planthopper, the brown planthopper. Others have not yet appeared. There used to be white butterflies, there were also caterpillars. But for this year, the only one that is talked about is the planthopper,” he said in a statement on Monday (10/8/2026).

He said many growing rice plants died, their leaves turned yellow, due to the attack of the brown planthopper.
The head of Maruyungsari village, Tusiman, said that the attack of the stink bug is also still a threat to rice plants, especially when entering the grain-filling phase. “The stink bug pest exists, and is usually controlled by spraying by farmers,” he said.
According to him, the stink bug attack can still be handled by farmers so far. However, the presence of the pest remains a concern because it has the potential to reduce rice productivity.
“So, even though there is no flooding now, the stink bug remains a concern for farmers. But hopefully it can still be handled,” he said.
One farmer, Suhdi (70), explained that pest attacks do occur in several areas, but are not as severe as in previous years. “If I’m not mistaken, 2024 was much worse than this year,” he said. (Deni Nurdiansah)
