Ghost in the Shell and Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Get Crossover Visual by Science SARU Director

A fresh crossover artwork showcasing THE GHOST IN THE SHELL and Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia has surfaced. The two television anime series are now streaming during the Summer 2026 season, with Science SARU overseeing the animation production. This joint illustration was created by Abel Góngora, who also directs Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia.

These productions originate from vastly different literary origins. The property THE GHOST IN THE SHELL stems from Masamune Shirow’s cyberpunk comic, whereas Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia draws from Tomato Soup’s historical manga series.

In addition to the partnership, a fresh episode illustration and selected scene reels for Episode 6 of THE GHOST IN THE SHELL—named “DUMB BARTER”—have been unveiled. The artwork was crafted by Mizuho Hayashi, affiliated with maxilla.

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia – Details

Tomato Soup serves as both writer and illustrator for the historical manga series titled A Witch’s Life in Mongol (Tenmaku no Jadugaru). The comic launched its serialization on Akita Shoten’s Souffle platform in September 2021. It captured the top honor in Takarajimasha’s “This Manga is Amazing! 2023” (Women’s Edition) and appeared on the Manga Taisho Awards list for two straight years, 2023 and 2024. English licensing was secured by Yen Press.

The core production team is headed by Naoko Yamada, acclaimed for titles such as K-On!, A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird, and The Heike Story, who serves as executive director. Her latest project, the film The Colors Within, featured an interview with us. Partnering with her is director Abel Góngora, known for co‑directing the second season of DAN DA DAN.

THE GHOST IN THE SHELL – Overview

Ghost in the Shell constitutes a Japanese cyberpunk franchise conceived by Masamune Shirow. Its origins lie in a manga run from 1989 to 1991, chronicling Major Motoko Kusanagi, a bio‑engineered operative navigating a future world where tech and mind merge. The seminal comic spawns multiple continuations, among them:

• Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor
• Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface
• The Human Algorithm (a recent sequel launched in 2019 by Junichi Fujisaku)

The property gained worldwide recognition largely through its anime adaptations, starting with the 1995 cinematic work helmed by Mamoru Oshii. Subsequent entries include:
