TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – RSUD dr Soekardjo Tasikmalaya now offers Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) for patients with kidney failure. However, this health service advancement must be accompanied by education to prevent infection-related complications.
This service is the first of its kind to be available in the Eastern Priangan region, employing minimally invasive procedures. Its introduction expands treatment options for kidney failure patients, particularly those who have previously required regular hemodialysis sessions at the hospital.
With CAPD, patients who have received education and are deemed capable can perform dialysis treatments independently at home. This approach eliminates the need for repeated hospital visits for therapy, hopefully offering greater flexibility in managing daily activities.

The Director of Medical and Nursing Services at RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung and also Chairman of the Indonesian Hospital Association (PERSI) West Java branch, dr Iwan Abdul Rachman Sp An KNA Mkes, stated that the implementation of CAPD at RSUD dr Soekardjo is part of an effort to broaden access to dialysis services and improve patients’ quality of life.
“We aim to assist the community by demonstrating how CAPD allows them to avoid repeated hospital visits and instead perform treatments themselves at home according to their needs,” Iwan said.
He further noted that the demand for dialysis services in Tasikmalaya is quite substantial.
Based on a direct on-site review, patients undergoing hemodialysis at RSUD dr Soekardjo originate not only from Tasikmalaya city but also from surrounding areas, including Garut Regency.
Iwan noted that this situation indicates RSUD dr Soekardjo has a fairly extensive service coverage. Therefore, CAPD is expected to serve as an alternative for patients requiring dialysis therapy while also helping alleviate the congestion of hemodialysis services at the hospital.
He disclosed that the development of CAPD also aims to expand the utilization of this method in line with the Ministry of Health’s target of reaching 10 percent of dialysis patients.
In addition to broadening treatment options, the implementation of CAPD is considered capable of reducing the financial burden of hemodialysis services because part of the therapy can be performed independently by patients at home.
