TASIKMALAYA, Thecuy.com – Residents of Gunung Huni Babakan Sirnarasa, Empangsari Village, Tasikmalaya City, are concerned about a damaged irrigation wall. This wall serves as a support for a bridge that is a key mobility route for the local community.
To reduce the risk of accidents, residents voluntarily installed warning signs to prevent four‑wheeled vehicles from crossing the bridge. They fear that the weight of such vehicles could accelerate structural damage and cause the bridge to collapse.
One resident, Kokon (54), said the damage to the bridge’s supports has been ongoing for a long time and is worsening. According to him, the public does not know the exact cause of the support’s collapse, but the situation now requires immediate action.

“We are worried that this bridge will collapse because its main support has already caved in,” he said.
Residents’ concerns grow as the rainy season approaches. The irrigation channel beneath the bridge serves as a water channel from the Cihideung area and the central part of Tasikmalaya City.
During heavy rain, water flow increases sharply, which could worsen the damage to the wall. If the bridge collapses, the impact is expected not only to cut off residents’ road access but also potentially disrupt the function of the irrigation channel beneath it.
Although it is not a main road, the bridge plays a crucial role as an alternative route for the community. The path is used daily by residents, including students heading to housing areas behind dr. Soekardjo Regional Hospital. When the main road is congested, many drivers also choose this bridge.
Rahman, a driver, hopes the government will intervene soon before an unwanted incident occurs.
“If the main road is congested, many use this route. Hopefully it will be repaired soon, without waiting for a victim before action is taken,” he said. (Ujang Nandar)
