The imminent 4K redo of Ninja Scroll (Jubei Ninpucho) has unveiled its official trailer, offering a fresh glimpse of Yoshiyaki Kawajiri’s 1993 animated movie before its brief re‑screening in Japanese cinemas this September.
The trailer also highlights Kawajiri’s energetic filmmaking, which cemented Ninja Scroll as a seminal action anime masterpiece of the 1990s. You can view it beneath.
Set in Japan’s Sengoku era, Ninja Scroll depicts a ronin swordsman named Jubei who partners with the Koga kunoichi Kagero to expose a plot orchestrated by the ageless Genma Himuro and his band of formidable fighters.
The 4K restoration will be shown in Japanese cinemas for a two‑week run beginning September 4. This revival is a facet of Filmarks’ continuing cinema restoration initiative, echoing its earlier re‑issue of Kawajiri’s Vampire Hunter D. More venues are slated to be disclosed later, and special admission perks will be handed out at certain sites.
