GARUT, Thecuy.com – Another forest and land fire (karhutla) erupted at Gunung Guntur, affecting the Cadas Gantung and Pasir Ayakan zones that lie on the border of Sukaraja Village and Sukalaksana Village, Banyuresmi District, Garut Regency, last Sunday afternoon, 26 July 2026.
Thick smoke and flames were first reported by locals at around 16.30 WIB. The fire spot was clearly visible from the Warung Peunteuy main road.
The Secretary of Garut Regency’s Disaster Management Agency, Abud Abdullah, confirmed the fire incident.
Upon receiving reports from residents, they quickly dispatched a team to the site to conduct monitoring and coordinate response efforts.

Abud explained that, besides concentrating on the main fire location at the Banyuresmi border, the Garut Regency BPBD also deployed personnel to monitor surrounding areas, including the Pasirbajing landfill, in order to prevent the fire from spreading.
He stated that the fire site was far from residential neighborhoods.
“We are carrying out extra monitoring measures, including around the Pasirbajing landfill, to make sure the fire does not spread to residential areas or other critical zones,” he said.
Field handling is carried out in an integrated manner, involving various relevant parties, including officers from the Garut Regency BPBD, Perhutani, BKSDA, and Forest Police (Polhut).
According to a joint team’s observation at the site up to 19.20 WIB, the fire condition has reportedly begun to be under control, with a significant reduction in the burnt area.
“Praise be, as night fell around 19.20 WIB, the fire area was observed to have decreased markedly. The field team remains on standby and continues monitoring the current situation until everything is secure,” he said.
As this report was filed, the precise cause of the land fire remains under investigation by the relevant authorities.
