GARUT, Thecuy.com – A fire struck the commercial area of Pasar Andir, Mulyasari Village, Bayongbong District, Garut Regency, on Wednesday evening, August 26, 2026.
The Head of the Garut Regency Fire and Rescue Service (Disdamkarmat), Usep Basuki Eko, said that the Garut Regency Disdamkarmat first received a report of the market fire at 22.00 WIB.
“After receiving the report at 22.00 WIB, the team moved quickly and arrived at the scene at around 22.14 WIB to carry out firefighting measures,” he said on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
Efforts to upgrade the Pamegatan‑Singajaya road in Garut to provincial status; the New Garut Market area will be renovated, with temporary relocation of kiosks planned.
Eko explained that the burned object was a business/commercial area inside the market, with an affected area of approximately 4 x 5 meters.
To prevent the spread of fire in the dense area, a total of 8 combined units were deployed to the incident site.
“We deployed 8 units working collaboratively on the ground, consisting of 1 Command Unit, 3 Mako Units, 1 City Post Unit, 1 Cikajang Sector Post Unit, plus assistance from 1 BPBD Supply Unit and 1 TNI Kodim Water Tank Unit,” he said.
The handling also involved the police, TNI, BPBD, PLN, and surrounding residents who worked together to assist in the firefighting and cooling process.
He assured that there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. The officers’ efforts also successfully saved other building assets in the vicinity.
“Thank God, thanks to the officers’ swift action and collaboration of all parties, the fire did not spread. There were no injuries or fatalities,” he said.
He explained that the fire disaster caused material losses estimated at Rp250 million. Meanwhile, assets worth approximately Rp500 million were saved.
Regarding the cause of the fire, authorities are still conducting further investigation.

“The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by the police,” he emphasized.
He urged all residents and market traders to always increase vigilance against potential fires, especially by regularly checking the condition of electrical installations.
