There’s always something special about being in a day filled with people who share your love for the same stories—from striking cosplay displays and lively art stalls to thrilling stage acts and exciting new collectibles. This year, Anime and Cosplay Expo 2026 turned out to be a delightful showcase of creativity, community spirit, and all the things that make the Filipino anime community so enjoyable.

During the convention, attendees roamed through displays, each area brimming with fresh and classic fan creations. The “budol” (impulse‑buying) buzz was intense! At the same time, many participants showed up as their beloved anime characters; some outfits were dazzlingly bold, while others leaned toward humor or simplicity. We also saw the GICOF contest, fun anime‑themed games, and the excitement around Nissin’s Yakisoba and Gong Cha’s milk tea. The crowd clearly was eager to make the most of this anime‑cosplay weekend. Below is a quick revisit of some of the standout moments.

People always chuckle about the usual convention quirks: missing sleep due to excitement or last‑minute prep, forgetting to eat because time flies, walking miles (hey, we’re always training), spotting friends in varied cosplays and fangirling over their changes (it’s truly amazing), mustering the nerve to ask a cosplayer for a photo before the moment slips away, and, of course, the budgeting drama at the merchant and artist stalls. What’s great is we get to enjoy and share these event memories together, not just alone, but as a community.

A standout moment of ACX 2026 was seeing the stage and crowd become a vibrant tapestry of energy. From the emcees’ hype to the audience’s cheers, I was more captivated than ever by the performances. It was truly the most pleasant seating experience I’ve had in a while. The GICOF (Global International Cosplay Finals) Philippine Qualifiers definitely stole the show, with everyone giving their all. The singing and cosplay talent contests also shined, offering both entertainment and excitement as the participants displayed their distinct anime‑inspired creations.

The game on stage where participants guessed song titles and singers was also plenty funny. I could picture how nerve‑racking it must’ve been, but the thrill of getting the answer right lit up the anime fan inside me. (And me too: trying to picture my Spotify playlist like I’d try to picture my quiz answers). It’s always wonderful to see individuals committed and passionate about their hobbies, and it feels even better when it brightens up others.

I really liked how ACX 2026 improved their stage activities and community engagement. Everyone was great! The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the family‑feud‑style round asking for famous anime dog names. The leading answer— and I despise this— was Nina Tucker from Full Metal Alchemist. (Nooooooo!) A lot of us reacted with loud exasperation, but it turned into a funny, shared moment of dismay. I can’t believe that same day Daemons of the Shadow Realm dropped that Nina Tucker easter egg as well.

Now in its tenth year, ACX 2026 stays as our comfy, light‑hearted yet bustling festival during the rainy season. As I’ve said before, this is truly one of the best events, especially if you want a relaxed, lucky atmosphere or want to introduce newcomers to the community without feeling overwhelmed. It’s the perfect chill event where creativity flourishes, friendships blossom, and fans can celebrate the stories and characters that have shaped them over the years. Each cosplay, fan art, setup, performance, and shared giggle reminds us that this community keeps growing thanks to the passion, talent, and heart of those who show up and make it theirs.

My weekend began feeling dull and down because of the rainy season, but I left feeling refreshed as bright as sunshine. I discovered (and purchased, hehe, thanks Anpanic) many items that gave me simple pleasures from the anime world and the Filipino fan community, which will surely keep me hopeful.

With the first half of the year over, the second half is just beginning! There’s a lot to look forward to as the next big event, the flagshipCosplay Mania, will take place at SMX Convention Center Manila. The full lineup of international Japanese anime music performers, cosplayers, voice actors, and VTubers has been announced.
