The Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections of Lampung, M. Hilal, said that National Children’s Day serves as a reminder that every child, including those undergoing rehabilitation, has the right to education, guidance, and the opportunity to improve their future.

“Regardless of who the child is or where they come from, it is the state’s duty to provide education and guidance so that they become better individuals. Every Indonesian child has the right to education,” said Hilal, accompanied by the Head of LPKA Kelas II Bandar Lampung, Ari Fabia Mahardani.

Hilal expressed appreciation for the presence of the Chair of TP PKK of Lampung Province at the event. According to him, the attention given constitutes moral support for the juvenile inmates. “We thank Mrs. Mirza and her delegation for visiting LPKA. This is an extraordinary form of attention to the juvenile inmates. She also interacted directly with them, providing them with special encouragement,” he said.

On that occasion, LPKA Kelas II Bandar Lampung also invited the parents of juvenile inmates from various regions of Lampung Province to meet directly with their children during National Children’s Day. “We invited parents of juvenile inmates from various areas, starting from Kotabumi, Kalianda, Tulang Bawang, and other regions. Alhamdulillah, they were all able to gather with great happiness,” he said.

Hilal explained that during their rehabilitation period, juvenile inmates still receive their right to education through various prepared programs. This guidance includes character building, religious education, social activities, scouting, sports, and arts development.

Furthermore, LPKA Kelas II Bandar Lampung also collaborates with the Community Learning Center (PKBM) and branch schools to ensure that juvenile inmates continue to receive formal education. According to Hilal, one of the challenges faced is that some juvenile inmates have dropped out of school and no longer have educational documents. “There are several children who dropped out of school, and their diplomas are no longer available. This becomes an obstacle when they want to continue their education,” he said.

As a solution, LPKA provides access to education through the Kejar Paket A, B, and C programs, allowing juvenile inmates to obtain equivalency diplomas. “The most important thing is that they receive Paket A, Paket B, or Paket C. In this way, after completing their rehabilitation, they can continue their education to higher levels or enter the workforce. Their education should not be halted simply because they are undergoing rehabilitation,” said Hilal.

He added that the guidance is also aimed at developing the talents and self-confidence of juvenile inmates through various artistic and sports activities. During the National Children’s Day celebration, the juvenile inmates performed modern dance, flash mob, and several artistic performances that received appreciation from the invited guests.

Hilal hopes that all the guidance programs carried out can serve as preparation for juvenile inmates to return to society as better and more productive individuals.
