Kusunoki’s Flunking Her High School Glow-Up Gets Anime

Kusunoki’s Flunking Her High School Glow-Up now has an anime adaptation in the works. A teaser illustration and a promotional video have also been unveiled. The animation will be produced by Passione (Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf) together with Hayabusa Film (Chained Soldier Season 2), starring Yuto Uemura as Keisuke Shizuki and Tomori Kusunoki as Shizuka Kusunoki.

Midori Yui, known for directing episodes of Asteroid in Love, is handling the series as director and composition writer. Character designs come from Koji Haneda (The Faraway Paladin) and the music is composed by Hyadain (Rent-a-Girlfriend). The adaptation is based on a manga created by Mitsuki Mii. It launched on the Pixiv Comic site under Ichijinsha’s Comic Pool imprint in October 2022 and currently has seven volumes released.

Kodansha USA is releasing the manga in English, presenting the synopsis:
Keisuke Shizuki used to be an outcast in middle school, but that’s changed now. After being rejected by his first crush, Shizuki developed a fear of beautiful girls and set out to reinvent himself for high school: new looks, new friends, new confidence—provided he stays away from the cute girls and anyone who knows his past. Unfortunately, the hottest girl at his new school turns out to be his former middle‑school classmate and fellow ex‑outcast, Shizuka Kusunoki. Unlike Shizuki, Kusunoki still lacks the social finesse to make the most of her new appearance—and she needs Shizuki’s help. Assisting her, however, means spending lots of time around a beauty and attracting some unwelcome attention…
