The series originates from a light novel penned by Kaede Nishikigi and illustrated by Shuri. It began its online run on Kakuyomu in January 2021. Subsequently, TO Books obtained the publishing rights and has released 16 volumes. Additionally, a manga adaptation illustrated by Hiroshi Asagi has been running on TO Books’ Corona EX manga platform since April 2022.
Tobikawa is publishing the light novel series in French and English, describing the story as follows:
Dan‑Katsu is a legendary RPG offering over 1021 playable classes and more than 400 possible endings. The deeper you explore, the more hidden features you uncover. A gamer known as Zephyrus awakens in Dan‑Katsu’s world, instantly becoming its protagonist. Overjoyed, he enrolls at the Labyrinth Academy, where the main story unfolds. He soon acquires the ‘Hero’ class, the top tier in the game, but realizes that the ‘Muscle Warrior’—a class he thought was merely fun—is regarded as powerful here, and that the toughest dungeons remain unsolved. In effect, he can treat this realm like a fresh game. Determined to prove what a true strong class looks like, he gathers classmates, helps his shy childhood friend become an Alchemist, reforms a self‑centered princess into a saint, and with his band of formidable allies, stands ready to tackle the dungeons!
