The figure has reached 496 cafés, placing it neck‑and‑neck with Bekasi City in West Java, so the City of Resik certainly has no shortage of hangout spots.
However, so that local coffee brews aren’t just about pretty décor or falling behind the onslaught of modern cafés, the quality of the baristas behind the counter is now being ‘scrutinised’ through a national standard exam.

In response to that challenge, the Vocational Training and Productivity Development Center (BBPVP) Bandung collaborated with the Tasikmalaya City Manpower Office and Chronos Coffee to hold a professional certification test by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) on Friday (9/10/2026).
This step marked the culmination of an intensive five‑day training program attended by 16 participants at Chronos Coffee.
During that assessment, BBPVP Bandung directly deployed a competency assessor, Dr. (c) Nanang Suciyono, M.Kom., to evaluate the skill standards of local coffee brewers.
Previously, a dozen participants had been taught the fundamentals of coffee brewing under the guidance of instructor Ryan Firmansyah.
The training covered understanding raw materials, extraction techniques, equipment operation, flavor consistency, and standards of hygiene and service.
The growth of 496 cafés in Tasikmalaya City confirms that the coffee industry is no longer just a youth lifestyle trend but a driver of the regional economy that absorbs a large number of workers.
Through this BNSP certification, baristas not only obtain an official license to compete in the job market, but also have strong capital if they wish to open an independent coffee shop. (rls)
